New Systems in Intermedia Art + Performance
by Sean Clute + Pauline Jennings of DOUBLE VISION

Directed by Sean Clute and Pauline Jennings, DOUBLE VISION creates contemporary performances for dance, music, video, animation and interactive technology. At the heart of our work is a need to experiment and seek meaning in the ever-changing landscape of contemporary culture. In this lecture we will explore new systems for organizing and how these systems can feed into intermedia performance and interactivity. The talk is based on DOUBLE VISION’s three-part series, Evolutionary Patterns and the Lonely Owl, which adapted various systems including John Conway’s Game of Life, DNA codons, and game theories to create immersive, interactive environments. In these environments and through adherence to the imposed systems, dance, sound, video, installation and interactive devices were influenced by eachother and manipulated by the audience. Major topics we will explore include collaboration, interactivity, and system / non-system development.

DOUBLE VISION will present an evening of video, dance, and music in a rare Viennese appearance. Members of the San Francisco based intermedia group have been living in Austria for the past two months and will be showing both new and old performances in celebration of their stay. Included will be the live animation performance Big Timber, Chop! Chop!, Resonances for dance and sound, and Etwas Früher und Jetzt die einfachen Leute for video. Enjoy the warm atmosphere of Raum D with Sean Clute, Pauline Jennings, Dorsey Dunn, and Caitlyn Carradine before they head back to the United States.

The Six Donuts program will include:
