The Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Arts Lab presents AUTOMATON08, a fundraiser featuring interactive technology, dance, performance art, and video, to take place Friday, September 26th from 7:00pm to 11:00pm at the Bar of Modern Art. The event features performance groups DOUBLE VISION, Anna and the Annadroids, and Queen Mae and the Bells, along with videos produced by artists from Ohio, New York, and the UK.
Headlining AUTOMATON08 is DOUBLE VISION, a San Francisco-based intermedia performance group combining dance, music, video, and interactive technology. In addition to performing at the San Francisco Fringe Festival and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, DOUBLE VISION has been featured at venues such as Dance Mission Theater, N4th Theater, the Mills College Signal Flow Festival, WORKS/San Jose, CounterPULSE, and CELLspace. They have also been filmed for television’s Meaning of the 21st Century, a national PBS broadcast. The group is currently on their first North American tour.
Joining DOUBLE VISION are Columbus’ own Anna and the Annadroids and Queen Mae and the Bells. Headed by dancer/choreographer and Greater Columbus Arts Council award winner Anna Sullivan, Anna and the Annadroids is an experimental dance company that utilizes quirky gestures and symbolic movements to encourage viewers to re-evaluate cultural norms and personal belief systems. Praised for their highly inventive costumes and minimalist approach, performance art group and experimental noise band Queen Mae and the Bells have performed in a number of experimental music festivals and fashion shows around Ohio and the United States.
The event begins at 7:00pm with a social hour featuring video art and computer animations created by artists from Columbus, Cincinnati, New York, and the United Kingdom. Performances begin at 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Fuse Factory web site at http://www.thefusefactory.org/Automaton. Tickets purchased prior to the event are $15 for the general public, $10 for students. Tickets are $20 at the door.
